Thunderbird Show Park Welcomes JustWorld as Charity Partner for Sixth Year
Six years ago Thunderbird Show Park teamed up with JustWorld International for their “Adopt a Project” campaign. Through the generosity of the horse show, riders and guests, JustWorld has raised more than $97,000 since the partnership originated. This year the organization will return to the Thunderbird for the 2016 Summer Series, raising support for their mission to provide nutrition, health and hygiene, education, and leadership and cultural development programs for impoverished children. In Cambodia, JustWorld works with People Improvement Organization (PIO) to fund construction and support operational costs for two schools: Stung Mean Chey at a municipal garbage dump and Borey Keila in an urban slum. As a result of JustWorld's support last year, 850 students received an education, scoring above average on national public school exams, a daily lunch and health care. Additionally, each student with good attendance received 5 kg of rice each month for their family, reducing the need for them to gather food scraps or pick through trash to earn money for food for their families instead of going to school.Six years ago, Thunderbird Show Park in Langley, British Columbia, adopted the JustWorld PIO Rice for Families Program in Cambodia. Ever since this partnership began, Thunderbird Show Park has exceeded the goals they set and expectations for raising awareness and funds. Last year was no exception- they raised the most yet with a total of $28,812.92, enabling them to fund the cook’s salary in addition to the rice program.JustWorld was excited to be part of the Nations Cup week at Thunderbird this June, continuing to raise awareness and funds for their partner projects. Thanks to the generous donations of vendors, local supporters, and of course Thunderbird Show Park, the silent auction was a success. JustWorld was also thrilled to receive two roundtrip tickets from the the Air Canada Foundation for the second year in a row. Raffling this tremendous donation item last year helped to raise more than $5,000 and this year promises to raise even more.Belong to something life-changing, powerful, and impactful- join the new JustWorld Membership Program. First launched at Thunderbird, supporters can enroll for as little as $10 per month which helps to provide the most basic necessities to children at JustWorld’s projects. A small donation of $10 is equivalent to the cost of a uniform for a child provided by JustWorld, a public school requirement for attendance, and changes the course of his or her future. By enrolling in this program through Thunderbird, you will not only be a part of this amazing change, but as a reminder of your commitment you will receive a JustWorld luggage tag, 20% discount on Thunderbird Show Park merchandise for the year, and updates on how your donation is making a difference in the lives of children. Jane Tidball, Show President, and Chris Pack, Vice President of Operations, are strong ambassadors of JustWorld and continue to think outside the box for ways to help more and more children. Kim McDougall, lead volunteer, also continues to be a vital supporter at all of the JustWorld events that have been held at Thunderbird Show Park and goes above and beyond to help the children of PIO. JustWorld is looking forward to everyone coming together again in August to continue to raise awareness and funds, sending the message that working towards a common goal of helping the children truly makes a difference.
