In Phnom Pehn, Cambodia children scavenge the municipal garbage site for pennies a day in an effort to support their families. The work is dangerous, and many of these children live in dwellings at the dumpsite without access to electricity or sanitation. To combat the cycle keeping these families impoverished, Phymean Noun founded People Improvement Organization (PIO). JustWorld International partnered with PIO in 2004, funding the operational costs of a Kindergarten-12 school. With JustWorld’s support, PIO students receive educational instruction from qualified teachers, treatment from a licensed doctor and dentist, access to clean water, sanitation, and nutritious school meals. The JustWorld Rice Program incentivizes school attendance by sending students home with 5kg of rice every month- enough to feed a family of six.
